What we are looking for

The businesses we would love to buy

Everything we are looking for has one thing in common: it helps someone make a garden or a home more beautiful. Within that, here are the four areas we are actively looking in.

01

Garden design & landscaping

Design practices and landscape build firms with a portfolio to be proud of, a good name locally and a team that can carry the work forward.

  • Garden design
  • Landscape build
  • Plants, nurseries & horticulture
  • Specialist trades

02

Garden products & outdoor living

Makers, importers and retailers of the things that give a garden its character – the pieces people choose carefully and keep for years.

  • Furniture
  • Pots & planters
  • Art & sculpture
  • Garden rooms & structures
  • Lighting & water features

03

Home interiors & decor

Interior design studios and the product businesses behind them – anything that makes the inside of a home feel considered and well made.

  • Interior design
  • Homeware & decor
  • Soft furnishings
  • Paint, tile & surfaces

04

Online retail & wholesale supply

Direct-to-consumer brands and wholesale suppliers in the same world. Chris has spent his career building product businesses of exactly this shape.

  • Online / D2C brands
  • B2B wholesale
  • Distribution
  • Own-brand product

This is not a closed list. If your business sits alongside these – supplying them, serving the same customers, making something for the same rooms and gardens – please get in touch. Send us a note.

Where we are looking

Nine counties, one afternoon apart

  • Wiltshire
  • Somerset
  • Gloucestershire
  • Dorset
  • Oxfordshire
  • Devon
  • Berkshire
  • Monmouthshire
  • Hampshire

Based in Wiltshire, we can be anywhere in this area within a couple of hours – and we will happily look further afield for the right business.

The fit

What matters more than the sector

We are looking for the right business with the right people in it. That matters far more to us than ticking a category.

£750k–£5m turnover

Profitable and established, with tidy books. Smaller businesses with a clear growth story are still worth a conversation.

South-West England

Wiltshire, Somerset, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Devon, Cornwall and the surrounding counties. Further afield if the story is strong.

People who can carry on

A manager, a foreman, a designer, a small loyal team – someone who knows how the business runs day to day.

Quality and reputation

Work you are proud of, customers who come back, suppliers who speak well of you.

Complementary to the group

Something that could share customers, suppliers or know-how with the other businesses we buy.

A seller who cares

Owners who want their team looked after and their name treated well after they have gone.

Being honest

What we are probably not right for

Turnaround situations

We are not the right buyers for a loss-making business that needs rescuing. We are two people, not a restructuring firm.

Owner-only businesses

If everything lives in your head and there is no team at all, it can still work – but it is harder, and we will be upfront about that.

Very large deals

Much above £5m of turnover we are unlikely to be the right home. We would rather say so on day one.
