Chris & Sarah Jones
A husband-and-wife team from Wiltshire building a small group of garden and home businesses – slowly, carefully, and with our own money.
Why we are doing this
Jones Garden & Home came about from three things arriving at once. The first is Chris: an entrepreneur with a good many years behind him, looking for another business to get his teeth into – and a skill set he knows can add real value to a small company.
The second is Sarah. She has been a qualified accountant for years and has had quite enough of the daily grind of other people’s numbers. She wants to put her own skills into something she can call home and be genuinely proud of.
And the third is the simplest of all: we have spent the last ten years doing up our own homes, and loved the process. We have worked with some wonderful small businesses along the way – and a few poor ones – which convinced us we could do this well, and do right by the good ones. We like making things lovely, and we like the idea of taking a well-run small business and helping it grow into something really rather special.
We are at the beginning of this: we have not made our first acquisition yet, and we will update this site as soon as we have.
The two of us
What each of us brings
Chris
Chris has spent his career in the pet industry, building and running product businesses – own brands, retail and wholesale, importing and exporting, and the unglamorous work of stock, margins and suppliers. He is still involved there, and is looking to invest in a sector he genuinely loves, with a view to stepping into the business properly in the future.
Sarah
Sarah is a qualified accountant who has spent years in practice, working for other people. She is ready to step away from the mundane end of that and put the experience into something of ours instead – a business to shape rather than report on.

Four things we will always do
Keep it confidential
Nothing you tell us goes any further than the two of us. We are happy to sign an NDA before you share anything detailed.
Be honest about money
We are not mega-rich. We are investing our own life savings and will borrow alongside it, in proportion to the business. If we cannot fund something we will tell you straight away.
Look after the team
The people in a business are the reason it works. Nobody gets bought and then broken up on our watch.
Move at your pace
Some owners want to be gone in three months, others want two years of gentle handover. Both are fine.
